Dubai Bye...Update...4/19

Doesn't it just pi$$ you off when people swear. If you are one of those people with sensitive ears - you just might want to consider moving to Dubai.

One of the seven emirates of the UAE (United Arab Emirates), Dubai is a ultra-modern city that offers any amenity one could ask for. But if you swear - you die.

A British lad recently found out the hard way the penalty for swearing.

Lee Bradley Brown was on vacation in Dubai, staying at a hotel where the minimum nightly cost was over £1,000 (thats $1635) . Holy $hit - that's a lot of Dirhams. Well, he had the misfortune of swearing, was arrested, thrown into a filthy cell in the infamous Bur Dubai police station and beaten to death. [4/15 update] It is now alleged that Mr. Brown attempted to throw a Nepalese chambermaid off of the sixth balcony when she entered his room unannounced. Sounds like one fun vacation in this global city that claims tourism as one of it's major industries.
Animals will be animals anywhere in the world. But in this area - they seem to run rampant. After his arrest things went poorly for Mr. Brown. The Daily Mail reports:

Inmates say they watched in horror as he was 'badly beaten' by a group of up to six police officers. They say he was stripped and handcuffed to a chair, where he was beaten with fists, feet and batons.

He was dragged to a solitary confinement cell where he died three days later – before guards bundled him into a body-bag and dragged him out of the building. During Mr Brown's six days in Bur Dubai police station, guards refused to give him enough food and water and did not let him see a lawyer, it is alleged...

Dubai's attorney general Eisam Al Humaidan said,

the preliminary forensic report had ruled out any torture and that there were traces of cannabis in Mr Brown's system, with the formal autopsy report due to be issued next week. 'The forensic report attributed Brown's death to asphyxia. The deceased choked on his own vomit. 'The report also pointed to traces of hashish in his blood and urine samples.'

Sharky&Sharky will keep you apprised of this story and do what can be done to avoid a cover-up. But, where is the outrage for Mr. Brown? The Bur Dubai police should be investigated with the same rigor as the miscreant US forces utimately were at Abu Ghraib? Why has the story changed from Mr. Brown "swearing" to him attempting to throw a chambermaid off a 6 story balcony? Where is the record in print of what Mr. Brown swore, the words he used? Let us all know so that planned vacations to Dubai do not end up in tragedy. To all Sharky&Sharky readers: While in Dubai do not throw the chambermaid out the window! This is a No! No!

[4/19 update]  Two Dubai doctors have been asked to reexamine Mr. Brown's body post autopsy before the family repatriates the body to England. From the Daily Mail.

Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan Bin Tamim, head of Dubai Police, told the Daily Telegraph: 'We do not doubt the first report but we just want to confirm it.  'Two doctors started examining the body on Saturday and we will reveal the results soon. 'Dubai Police didn't beat the British man and we didn't put him into solitary confinement. 'Dubai Police policy is known to be transparent and we will not hesitate to ensure our own officers face justice and punishment if we believe that they used violence against prisoners.'

The Sharks demand that the British authorities provide a second autopsy. It is not usual for sober people to choke on their own vomit.

In a Daily Mail article Sila says that she just wants to be free and to be a model for freedom for all Muslim girls and women. Sharky&Sharky want all women to be as free as Sila. It is all about Freedom and Liberty here at Sharky&Sharky. Sila is the first Turkish woman to appear as a showcase in Playboy. Did you notice those tan lines?

However with Muslims there is always a danger. A comment concerning Sila on the Daily Mail site demonstrates the point:

MILLINOCKET, Maine...Seeks China's High Schoolers...GFB

Dr. Ken Smith the Superintendent of Schools for Millinocket, Maine is faced with situation. The enrollment at Stearns High School had shrunk from 700 to 200 students over the last 10 years. The town is in Maine (average temperature is 41 degrees Farenheit and average snowfall is 3.5 feet) and needed a program to save the school. What could Dr. Smith do to save the the school? The School had economic problems. The town of Millinocket is failing.

Millinocket's population has fallen 30 percent in the past 20 years. Two paper mills that used to be the lifeblood of the regional economy, employing more than 4,000 workers at their peak in the 1980s, are skeletons of their past selves - one is idle and the other employs about 450 workers. Stearns High School needs to improve its academics also:

As for education, Smith acknowledges the school's poor test scores. The percentage of juniors at Stearns meeting state standards for writing, reading, science and math stood between 36 and 41 percent in the latest round of testing.

Although the town is dying, it is a lovely place. It has clean Maine air, clean running tap water, low crime, good roads, natural beauty, and Mount Katahdin, the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. It appears to be a nice place to visit or retire but not to start life. But Dr. Smith has a plan see the picture of Dr. Smith on the Great Wall for a hint.

Yes Dr Smith did not turn to our Black urban areas and say "send me your tire and poor and huddle masses yearning for education" nor did he turn to poor illegal Hispanics. No Dr Smith turned to China's middle class or better students who can pay $13,000 for Stearns High School Tuition, plus $14,000 for room and board. He went on a tour of Beijing, Shanghai and Fuzhou with the objective of bringing in 60 paying students. (some sources cite 100).

Now there are some problems, but Dr. Smith is a problem solver. Problem: The Chinese Students can only stay in an US public school for a year. It appears that this is a federal law. Dr. Smith has received clearance from Home Land Security to allow the students to attend Stearns for one year.

Smith also secured an agreement with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to allow Chinese students to attend Stearns for a year. He also has an agreement with Lee Academy under which Lee would accept those students after their year in Millinocket. Lee also would accept Millinocket students into its Advanced Placement classes

Now if the students can only stay a year what is Dr. Smith next move? According to the NYT:

Under State Department rules, foreign students can attend public high school in the United States for only a year, a system that Dr. Smith considers unfair, given that they can attend private high schools for four years. He is pressing Maine’s Congressional delegation to seek a change,

Are there other options rather than bring in a foreign student body? Yes Stearns Millinocket could consolidate with other districts: It appears that this is not workable:

Previous efforts to consolidate with East Millinocket, Medway and other towns that stretch back several years have failed to date. East Millinocket, Medway and Woodville officials have made clear that while they would like to continue programs that mix their students with Millinocket’s, consolidating their administrative or political leadership with Millinocket’s is not desirable.Other towns have expressed no interest in consolidation with Millinocket or found the logistics too daunting

There are a few more threads here to tie together. First, Dr. Smith is truly shooting for 200 Chinese Students, doubling the enrolment in Stearns. This would make Stearns the only high school in the US that is half paying foreign students. He has got to find places, homes or dorms, for them to stay at a cost say of an additional $13000. As School Board Chairman Hopkins has affirmed, “This could be an unmitigated disaster if we don’t do it right,”. However this $13,000 per student will be a boon to Millinocket. Second, how does Lee Academy fit in this deal. Well as best as Sharky&Sharky can figure out Lee is going to offer the bulk of the AP courses. They currently offer AP in English, History, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Advanced Economics, Art etc. Further they have sister schools in China. Note the diverse championship basketball team at Lee, (a) The compulsory tall Black youngster (b) the three Chinese appearing youngster (one is rather tall). In addition Lee Academy is Dr. Smith's back-up for the students at Stearns completing their studies after one year.

Third, Why does Dr Smith want Chinese students now? Because as a great problem solver he can read the tea leaves.  The current partly operating paper mill wants a significant tax reduction and a tax loss writeoff. Read here if you want to see the realities faced in our country by our town officials as we become a third rate economic power. Dr. Smith can easily predict that if he does not save the school with paying students, Stearns will face serious personnel cuts. Sharky&Sharky question his misapplied entrepreneurial elan. The evidence as to what to do is apparently all around Dr. Smith. Lee Academy brings in Chinese Students, Not far away in Maine other public schools are leading by example:

Chinese students are attending Orono High School, paying $13,000 each in tuition and $8,000 for room and board while staying with local families. Three Chinese students this year have attended Camden Hills Regional High School in Rockport, paying $15,000 in tuition and $5,000 for room and board to stay with local families.

Finally why do China's young finest want to come to the US high schools. They and their parents believe that a good American high education is the key step to getting into top American universities.

Is this new? Well no an yes. It has been a practice among the well-off Chinese to send a parent, usually the woman, with the children, to the US. This parent would ride the social welfare gravy train all the time receiving like many welfare mothers substantial income from the father from the mainland of HongKong. If the stateside parent did not receive welfare, her ostensible income was/is kept low enough to apply for an unwarranted income-based scholarship for her children and thus depriving poorer Americans of the available income-based scholarship funds. Well, times have changed. The new Chinese do not need our US income-based scholarship dollars. Getting into the US colleges is a business. And there are Chinese American businesses to do the trade. These are called recruitment agencies. It is estimated that there are about 100,000 Chinese college students from the mainland in the US and over 50% are undergraduates. In addition, the universities are actively recruiting directly:

Stanley Nel, University of San Francisco's vice president of internal relations and a recruiter, even travels to China four to 10 times a year, staying from a few days to several weeks. Public universities like UC Berkeley and San Francisco State and community colleges like Foothill and De Anza have also launched recruitment efforts, joining the 2010 five-city China Education Expo. Because of their academic preparation, global perspective and willingness to pay full tuition at cash-strapped campuses, Chinese students bring added value to the campus, admissions officers say

The last line says it all. However we are training those that will dominate us. We are developing the economic ecostructure of those who will be the world leaders as the US becomes world losers. Why are they superior and will continue to be superior: PARENTING. The Chinese child knows that his or her job is to learn. But the key role of a adult in a competitive society is be a demanding parent. Dr. Smith is right if he can get 50% of Stearns filled with high paying achieving Chinese students, he does not have to worry about educating the dumb Americans. He knows that he cannot teach them anyway; they have parents that are not demanding. The learning light is no longer burning white in Millinocket it is yellow.

Dr Smith direction is an implementation of New Public Management. His focus is on providing a service, grounded on rational choice. Stearns high school is now a set of entrepreneurial transactions with a focus on an additional set of measureable outcomes, not grades solely but revenue, and not the old bureaucratic measures which focuses on inputs. He has taken a public good, Stearns high school, and commoditized it. For example, he has outsourced the AP courses. Sharky&Sharky wonder if he will outsource basketball victories to Lee Academy. He is making a rational use of market transaction. He has the stepping stones to college, Stearns High School, the Chinese want to buy some steps. Unfortunately he is destroying Millinocket as an American community. The young adults, American and Chinese will hold no allegiance to Millinocket as a community. Thus the decline of Millinocket as a community will continue.

The NYT ran an article last year that demonstrated what had to be done to balance budget by 2015. Here is interactive site that enables you to practice eliminating the predicted $418B shortfall by 2015. Sharky&Sharky had no problem balacing this 2015 budget pretty damn quick or at least making up the $418B shortfall. The Sharks believe that if you cannot make this up by reducing spending by 2015 in 5 years it is nonsense and velleity to talk about higher taxes over the next 20 years to balance the budget.

Now it is time for those that got the advantage to pay the tax on the gains that their lobbying advantaged them over other less wealthy tax payers and helped change the law for their advantage.  As a final note if the Millionaires and Loopholers help with eliminating the budget defecit, their $.25 dollar becomes say a .$75 dollar; 5.4% is a small price to pay for a 300% improvement in the their wealth.

Quotas, Quotas Everywhere

Boy does our government love quotas. From busing students to and fro to achieve enrollment quotas, to hiring quotas, to housing quotas, to loan quotas - we just can't seem to get enough quotas.

A quota most Americans have long suspected, has unraveled right before the eyes of the government of California - home of quotas. A state so bankrupt, Sharky&Sharky don't believe all the quotas in the world can fix it.

The city of Los Angeles has illegal traffic ticket quotas and if an officer does not meet their quota, false performance reports are filed, they are also harassed and threatened by their superiors. Now that's a government who is serving and protecting its citizens.

The attorney for one of the officers who was allegedly forced to write spurious traffic summons, Officer David Benioff, had this to say; "We're very hopeful that this will put an end to fleecing motorists on the west side of Los Angeles." Mr. Gregory Smith went on to say "Quotas are a direct violation of the vehicle code, and this case was about theses officers being asked to break the law."

So, were the people responsible for this large scale corruption and conspiracy brought to justice? Hell NO! The police department simply had "no comment." Amazing - but guess what? The officers involved, Mr. Benioff and Mr. Howard Chan were, today, awarded $2 Million by the bankrupt state.

Fake ID's are something that has become part of America thanks in part to our southern border or lack thereof. Anyone can enter this country illegally and obtain a fake SSN and get a driving license. You see it all the time. Our government wants and needs illegal immigrants. They have lower expectations and are easier to manipulate.

Anyone who has pets knows the red tape (read hidden taxes and fees) associated with making sure Fido is now legal. Checkups, rabies tags, registration, leash laws, vaccinations and neutering to name a few are all now, "The Law." Do you suppose the veterinarians and their lobbies had anything to do with this?

Well, as they say: "If crime didn't pay, there wouldn't be so many people involved in it."

People who can't imagine being separated from their precious doggie can now, through the wonder of the internet, purchase fake ID tags and associated paperwork for their pooch. Thereby allowing access to all manner of public places and establishments. No longer are guide dogs just for the blind - excuse us - we meant the seeing impaired. Now they are for everyone. "My shrink says my dog helps me cope." Have an assist tag.

No doubt there will soon be places to incarcerate these canine scofflaws.

You know the adage: First they came for ______ fill in the blank, and I didn't say anything. Then they came for.... and when they came for me there was no one left to say anything. Well here goes.

The latest "You better watch out because it will cause cancer" claim, comes from alcohol. If you drink "too much" booze - amount to be determined by the government - you are at risk for "considerable proportion of the most common and lethal" of cancers. This according to Manuela Bergmann of the Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbruecke in Nuthetal Germany.

Where have we heard this before?

Sharky&Sharky understand there is a fine line between assisting the public's awareness and manipulating social customs and habits through modification/control via government intervention. But when is too much too much? As this planet's population continues to spin upward in an out of control manner, this almost seems counterintuitive and counterproductive.

The next big cancer scare will be soft drinks - especially the diet kind. Watch for it. In the meantime, go have an adult beverage.

But before he could sign, the offer was rescinded because, the Astros told him, the “economic climate” had changed. So instead he accepted a one-year, $5 million deal from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The leaders of the Connecticut General Assembly's higher education committee want UConn coach Jim Calhoun reprimanded for his tirade at a freelance journalist who questioned his $1.6 million salary.


Sen. Mary Ann Handley, D-Manchester, and Rep. Roberta Willis, D-Lakeville, said Thursday that Calhoun's outburst on Saturday does not reflect well on him or the state's flagship university

"His recent behavior was unacceptable and we request that the university take appropriate disciplinary action to reinforce the high ethical standards we have come to expect from our flagship institution," the lawmakers wrote in a letter to UConn President Michael J. Hogan.

"The question he was asked about his salary was perfectly fair, although the reporter, as Coach Calhoun suggested, might have found a more appropriate and less provocative setting for his inquiry," Hogan said. Sharky&Sharky applaud/endorse Mr K's right to free speech. More on Mr. Krayeske But the Sharks have a point of view and free speech also.

No one is forced to pay Mr Calhoun a dime. He asks for the money every year and after due consideration by the Government/University he gets a salary totally based on his ability to take a team to great heights in basketball. Whenever Mr. Calhoun starts to lose or Connecticut loses its love for basketball, they will offer Mr. Calhoun less. Mr Calhoun will either take the reduction or put himself out to the highest bidder. It is not the result of any action by Mr. Calhoun that the State of Connecticut is $47 B in debt and that 10% of its citizens are on food stamps. View Connecticut debt Clock

Sharky&Sharky believe that Mr. K's efforts will lead to nowhere. The Sharks recomend that he focused on Capitalism creating programs, Innovation, Removal of high cost EPA restrictions. Mr. K is wasting his time on critizing a capitalist transaction such as Coach Calhoun's salary. The Sharks do not know enough about Mr. K personally to say he is a Socialist or even a Democrat. But Sharky&Sharky do know enough to say Mr. K's efforts should be spent on creating more capitalism and captialist in Connecticut and not destroying the few that the state has, eg Mr. Calhoun. It is not about Justice it is about Capitalism.

An Imperfect Union

For most of us in the U.S. (see what we did there?), the only union that we enter into in our lives is the union of a man and woman in marriage - and most know how that holy ceremony ends up. However, in politics, the marriage with unions lasts until death do us part.

Why does the relationship between politics and unions work so well?

Although unions are not as pervasive as they once were, their presence is still felt throughout the nation due to the overwhelming campaign "contributions" they generate. To what are they contributing. That everyone should be treated equally is an over simplification. Worker's rights is another over simplification. Their contributions are forced and funneled into the Democrat party much the same way as illegal drug money is laundered. This money is used to demonize, demoralize and destroy both capitalism and freedom.

Take a good look at the following chart. It shows the top 20 political campaign contributors over the last twenty years.

If all the union contributions on the above chart were to be totaled it would come to over $338 Million. Regardless of how the union members vote in elections, these monies are confiscated and given to the Democrat party without members consent. This, folks, is money laundering pure and simple.

Over the last several decades we have seen our family unit go to hell, our public education system go to hell, our balance of trade go to hell, our national debt go to hell, and the countries infrastructure go to hell. These economic sectors are primarily union driven. Guess the devil is in the details after all.

Greed and corruption are now the engine that drives America. For further proof that unions are both corrupt and greedy look no further than the NFL Players Association and their list of "grievances." More, more, more. $10's of Millions a year is just not enough to play with a ball.

Not Your Daughter - Hopefully

Those crazy Canucks - you know the ones who say Eh every third word. Well, apparently eh a continuously cold climate, over time eh, can have some weird effects on people. Eh?

Some Canadian cop or whatever they call them up there suggested that women who dress less than conservatively are just asking for it. What "it" is we're not sure but "it" PO'ed the sluts. So they had huge "slut walk" yesterday to raise awareness for - you guessed it - Sluts.

As the curds and whey settle in the state over the recent efforts by Republicans and Gov. Scott Walker to reign in out of control government spending - comes this.

Brian Deschane. Seems Brian is a sort of 2011 kind of guy. You know the kind - the kind of twenty-something that thinks everything is owed him. No college degree, no real job, wealthy family, blah-blah-blah.

Well, "Who's Your Daddy" daddy Deschane (that would be Jerry) is a large contributor to Gov. Walker's campaign efforts, in fact tunneled in over $121,000 through their PAC, and also executive vice-president and career lobbyist for the Wisconsin Builders Association. Hmmm - starting to smell like rotting cheese.

Well, said cheese has come home to molder. Brian Deschane is now an appointed government slug overseeing environmental and regulatory matters for the Walker administration. With dozens of employees in his department and an annual salary of approximately $81,500 per year. Not bad for a guy who already has TWO DUI convictions.

Sweeping New Regulations

Sweep: verb [trans] - to move or push someone along with great force. I was swept away by the crowd.


For those of us who have never felt the power of a Tsunami or a riot and hence have not yet been "swept" away against our will by either the force of nature or a crowd gone wild - get ready. Your government (all those caring elected - legally and otherwise -  officials) is about to make sure you are not left behind.

Pre 1980, back when the United States was a decent place to be born, live and grow up, people with "disabilities" were simply that - disabled. Not able to participate in some or many aspects of life, they had to make do as best as possible with the tools God gave them. Life is hard for almost everyone, including Paris Hilton, and harder for some than many.

But, but, but you say? That isn't fair. You're right. What's fair is to make life miserable for everyone. That way we can all be equally miserable. And so, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission came to the rescue of God and DNA. Passing the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1980, which "defined" disabled as "a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity." Not further defining "major" or "activity" in the previous sentence allows the government to legislate and/or regulate the workplace anyway it sees fit to interpret. These types of interpretations ALWAYS lead to power grabs, wealth for pro-government supporters and misery for everyone else.

When an employed person satisfies the disabled moniker - the employer must suffer by providing approved accommodations. No matter what the employer's sacrifice, these required accommodations will never be sufficient. For if they were, we would no longer need the government to meddle in our private sector - and meddle they must for that is all that they are good for.

As of this writing, approximately 40 Million workers are considered disabled. That is simply not enough. Under the new regulations "Some people might even say that a majority of Americans are covered as disabled under the law" says attorney Condon McGlothlen. Now that's more like it. The majority of Americans are now controlled by the government in one fell swoop - or is it sweep.

Sharky&Sharky believe this should be taken one step further. Elect ONLY wheelchair ridden or otherwise obviously disabled candidates. If we have to comply - so should they.
