Sharky&Sharky firmly state that Palestine should be an autonomous sovereign state, now. It is in every country's interest to facilitate the birth of a free sovereign democracy. Further the United States and even Israel have no case against this nationhood. Sharky&Sharky wish to praise Mahmoud Abbas for realizing that after 20 years of discussion, war, and promises with Israel little has been accomplished or promises to be accomplished in the direction of Palestinian statehood. A new approach is required. President Mahmoud Abbas said that he would demand full membership of the United Nations for a Palestinian state when he goes to the U.N. General Assembly next week.

The Palestinian well-off expats are silent. However they will show up in Palestine if the vote is successful. Their commercial instincts will drive them home.
As Americans we should be behind Palestinian statehood. It is costing us no drones, no minuteman missiles, no "boots on the ground". Must all of our democratic conversions be via our military might? Here is a democratic conversion that we get for free (well not quite, We have given $2.5B to Abbas over the past 5 years). The US thinking is that the Abbas should negotiate freedom through the Israelis; HELLLOOO he has done that for thirty years. Well things take time you say: bullshit, Libyan rebels, The Libyan National Interim Government (NTC) while still shooting in the street, has been declared the legitimate holder of the Libyan UN seat. What slave has ever won a permanent negotiated freedom from the slave's master? No, freedom must be taken it is not freely given.
Others say we are abandoning our ally and friend Israel. Consider, in normal life, when our friend is wrong do we join our friend and reinforce their wrongheadedness? Is Israel safer by deferring Palestinian statehood? Today Palestinians are made to feel psychologically less than all their neighbors, including Israel. They have no country; they are citizens of nothing. Will there be less or more conflict if they are a free nation? Will there less or more rash discussions between equals? Will there be less or more destruction when neighbors have to respect one another? Sharky&Sharky believe in all cases reasoned minds reason better in a state of liberty versus subordinacy. No we diplomatically inform our friend, Israel, that we do not support them on this specific item. And Yes, our friendship is tested. However it could be when Palestine, with our support, becomes a nation we will have two friends.
Every age needs a "drum major" for freedom. Mahmoud Abbas is this age's current drum major. He is shouting out to the world "free at last", "free at last" "Great Allah Almighty free at last". Can America do anything less than vote yes for freedom?
