Breeders Cup
And they're off
This weekend's running of the 27th Breeders Cup reminds SharkyandSharky that the real Breeders Cup is being run within our shores - not in Churchill Downs.
Here's The Call
At the start White Lightning is out of the gate with the early lead, White Lightning is pulling away from the pack - what a beast, Black Thunder has stumbled at the start but is now under way.
Into the first turn it's White Lightning still stretching the lead, Black Thunder beginning to make a charge, and here comes Rio Grande Renegade already soaking wet but well in the race.
Bringing up the pack is Mosque Dynomite and Orient Express.
Through the first turn White Lightning is beginning to slow - guess all the additional weight this thoroughbred has to carry is taking it's toll. Black Thunder is reeling White Lightning in while Rio Grande Renegade seems to have found a short cut around this track.
Into the back stretch it's White Lightning really laboring now with Black Thunder right on his heels. Third is Rio Grande Renegade, with Orient Express showing life and Mosque Dynomite bringing up the rear. Looks like Mosque Dynomite still hasn't lit his fuse.
Into the club house turn Mosque Dynomite has exploded in a burst flying past Black Thunder and White Lightning. White Lightning is really off the pace now while Black Thunder seems confused. Orient Express has lost it's drive and Rio Grande Renegade is starting to pull away - solidly in fourth.
As they head for the finish it's Mosque Dynomite, Black Thunder, Rio Grande Renegade, White Lightning and Orient Express.
And down the stretch they come. Mosque Dynomite looks suicidal now. Rio Grande Renegade illegally passed Black Thunder on the inside and looks like he could challenge Mosque Dynomite for the win. It's Mosque Dynomite, Rio Grande Renegade neck and neck - Rio Grande Renegade, Mosque Dynomite, Mosque Dynomite, Rio Grande Renegade.
At the finish it's too close to call. It's a photo finish folks - but too bad about White Lightning. That horse pulled out of the race in the fourth turn - must have lost it's drive.
Black Thunder looks bewildered at the finish. You'd almost think the horse thought it was guaranteed the win. Meanwhile, Orient Express doesn't look concerned at all. Being the biggest horse in the race, I'm sure we will hear from him again.
