It is not an uncommon sight to see people without gainful employment, credit history or a bank account with a cell phone continuously glued to their ear. However, this is considered sad because these peoples only access to the internet is likely through said phone. According to the study: “about 20 percent of high-school dropouts use only a cell phone for wireless access, and 17 percent of them making less than $30,000 per year do the same.” The wealthy on the other hand, have a cell phone AND a laptop. The study did not go onto say if any other criteria were used or needed to determine wealth. But a laptop and cell phone together were sufficient to classify one as wealthy.
Oh BOO HOO. The “poor” in this country no longer need to work to receive: shelter, food, transportation, education (although this is rarely utilized), medical assistance and many other basic “necessities”. Oh yeah, and a cell phone. In fact, 73 percent of adults in poverty are estimated to have cell phones. Phones the working class provide via illegal taxes.
“Oh, that’s the ‘Obama-phone’” said Susan Lord, a leader of the conservative tea party movement in South jersey. “It’s just another way to redistribute the wealth. The “poor” get helped, and the cost is passed on to working people, who get depressed.” At the time of this writing, with 2,513 votes cast via a Philadelphia Inquirer poll, 87.4% of the people DID NOT think the poor should get free cell phones. But the Telecommunications Act of 1996 thinks otherwise. Within that Act is the assurance that “quality telecommunications services are available to low-income people at just, reasonable and affordable rates” - FREE.
